Principle of Operation

818 is designed on the principles of β-ray attenuation to measure precise and accurate ambient particulates concentrations. β-ray is a type of high-speed electron current. It inelastically collides with the electrons inside of a material when it passes through the material. Thus, its energy is partially absorbed. The amount of energy absorbed is solely dependent on the mass of the material, but not with its physical characteristics like its element, particle size, distribution, shape and color, etc.
